“It’s been a long time coming.”
And anyone who has followed me so far knows it. I have worked off and on as a writer most of my life. From the young age of twelve, I tried to start my first book. Discouraged as to the length of time it would take to write anything lengthy, as a child would, I stuck to reading. In high school, I explored the power of poetry and music, musical theater, and vocal performance. In college, it was more poetry and working at a bookstore. This finally pushed me to begin my first book, which was incorrectly titled and will be reformatted.
After writing Deliverance of Ave to no end, I put most of it down when I discovered art, painting, and design. And while I do keep up with that occasionally, I continued to explore my passion for literature from Asian authors like Yusanari Kawabata. I explored Asian themes and art through Lisa See and Liza Dalby. I began to discover the world of Hana Tsumami Kanzashi, and Sengoku Japan.
When Covid hit, the use of AI to write utter drivel appeared through social media. And even I knew I could write better than most of that stuff. Hot maybe. yet very abusive werewolves? We could do better than that.
And so in a matter of 6 weeks in a manic night-and-day rush, I completed the first draft of Dragon Born.
Little did I truly realize that I had not finished. After a year and a half of editing and tweaking, I managed my final copy and published it, sending it out like the tiny little dragon egg it was into the world.
At the same time, I picked up other drafts I had started, titles I have worked on for many months and still not completed, like Minotaur Madness and Dreams of Indigo. I have sequels in the works for both Dragon Born and A Dangerous Legacy. And I am still formatting, and fixing, Deliverance of Elizabeth, the first book in the Mater Angeli series for publication.
With the downfall of Kindle Vella, I am now moving to a different format for series delivery.
With so many stories going and without anyone giving me feedback, I am opening up a subscription tier, so that people can explore the stories they want and still provide feedback before anything goes to print.
Keep in mind this is not a full-time job, but my hobby. The website designs, the merch shop, the books+art, and all social media posts all come from one person.
In preparation for this, I have started to reformat the Victoria Asher webpage away from advertising and displaying what I have already published to what I will publish. There will hopefully be more blog posts while I revamp, and then silence while I work on stories.
And please let me know if Desert Peacock is working. AKA buy a shirt.
